Mae Hong Song 4088 Loop

Mae Hong Song Loop

Mae Hong Song Loop is one of the bikers check list, usually the loop start from Chiang Mai. It can be done via clockwise (heading south, recommended for beginner) or counter clockwise direction (heading north, more challenging). Advisible to spent 4 to 6 days to complete depending of the route you take.

  • Chiang Mai - Pai (762 Curves)
  • Chiang Mai - Mai Sariang - Mae Hong Son (1864 Curves)
  • Chiang Mai - Pai - Mae Hong Son (2224 Curves)
  • Mae Hong Son Loop ( 4088 Curves)

Above are some famous route with numbers of curves indicated as remarks, you will end up with more corners with all the detour to sightseeing attraction. For the first timer to ride MHS, i decided to do clockwise and spend 6D5N to complete the big loop. I have clocked 24 hours of riding, 1000km mileage with more than 4000 corners.

Day 1 - Collect bike from bike rental shop in Chiang Mai, check and test bike. Fuel up, lunch and proceed. I choose route 1013 to Doi Inthanon, this is a bit more challenging but scenic view instead of route 1009. Visit Big Buddha Statue, Doi Inthanon then down all the way via route 1009 and return to Doi Itnthanon check point 2 then turn left into route 1192 to Mae Chaem. (240 KM)

Day 2 - Great weather to sleep in Mae Cheam, wake up and riding in the town to check out morning market and breakfast in the hotel. Gear up and heading route 1088 and 108 to Mae Sariang. Lunch and rest in Coriander in Redwood Wine & Steak by the river yuam. Continue route 108 towards Mae Hong Son and detour route 1263 to Doi Mae U Kho visit Thung Bua Tong fields. The back to route 108 towards Mueang Mae Hong Son. (340 KM)

Day 3 - A relax day, only short distance to Ban Rak Thai. Wake up, breakfast and relax riding around MHS town. Go get the MHS loop certificate from the chamber of commerce. Check out by 11am and heading to Karan (Long Neck Village). Then follow route 108 then 4001 towards Ban Rak Thai.

Day 4 - Another relaxing day, estimated 140km journey to Pai, Only few stop by for the view point, check out around 10am, visit Pang Ung on the way out from BRT. Dont forget to drop by Landmark 1864 on route 1095 toward Pai.

Day 5 -Wake up early to visit Yun Lai viewpoint, breakfast there then visit Santichon village (Yunnan Cultural). Check out by 11am and heading route 1095 (140km) to Chiang Mai. Can plan to have some light lunch at the view point along the way.
